Whether solid or liquid soap is better for sensitive skin depends not primarily on the form, but on the formulation. A fragrance-free, mild bar soap can be just as skin-friendly as a pH-neutral liquid shower gel. Three factors are crucial: ingredients, pH value, and how reduced or nourishing the formulation is. At natüür, you have both: the solid, fragrance-free Solid Soap (Med Care) for dry, flaky skin and the Body Wash (Essentials) for a mild, pH-skin-neutral showering routine.
Solid or liquid? A question that surprisingly often arises in the morning shower
A bar of soap in your hand or a pump dispenser on the wall? What sounds like a matter of taste can actually make a difference for sensitive skin – but differently than many think. The honest answer is: It's not the form that matters, but the formulation.
A poorly formulated liquid soap can irritate just as much as an aggressive bar soap. And a well-designed bar soap can feel gentler on sensitive skin than some "sensitive" shower gels. Let's take a closer look.
What distinguishes solid soap from liquid soap?
At first glance: only the aggregate state. At second glance: several adjustable parameters in the formulation.
Water content and preservation
Liquid cleansers contain a lot of water – and therefore usually need preservatives to prevent spoilage. Solid soap contains almost no water and can often manage with a reduced ingredient list.
pH value
Classic soaps are chemically slightly alkaline (pH 8–10) because lye is formed during saponification. A syndet-based liquid cleanser, on the other hand, can be formulated to be pH-skin-neutral (around pH 5.5) – i.e., close to the skin's natural acid mantle.
Cleansing agents (surfactants)
Liquid soaps often use mild surfactants based on sugar or amino acids. Solid soaps are based on saponified vegetable oils – this is not automatically milder or harsher, but a matter of selection.
Three common myths that persist
Myth 1: "Solid soap always dries out the skin."
This is only true for classic core soaps with a high alkali content. Modern bar soaps with vegetable oils and glycerin can even protect the skin from drying out during cleansing.
Myth 2: "Liquid soap is more hygienic."
This used to be true because water stood on wet soap. Today: If you store the bar dry after use, there is no hygiene problem. Pump dispensers, in turn, produce more plastic.
Myth 3: "Natural automatically means skin-friendly."
Even essential oils in natural soaps can irritate sensitive skin. More important than the label "natural" is the specific INCI list – especially concerning fragrances.
Here are the two natüür options

Which cleanser suits which skin condition?
Instead of a blanket answer, a quick self-diagnosis helps:
Does your skin react to fragrances or is it currently acutely irritated?
→ Then Solid Soap is the calmer choice. Fragrance-free, short INCI, Med-Care logic. Especially during flare-ups of psoriasis, neurodermatitis or rosacea, it's a good starting point.
Is your skin sensitive, but currently in balance?
→ Then Body Wash is perfectly fine – pH-skin-neutral, mild surfactants, gentle fragrance. Perfect for an everyday routine where you simply want to feel good after showering.
Does your skin fluctuate between calm and irritable?
→ Then make both part of your routine: Solid Soap for more intense phases, Body Wash for everyday use. Most customers end up doing just that.
