The first leaves are turning yellow, the days are slowly getting shorter and the temperatures are also falling: autumn is here.
The cool temperatures also affect the moisture content of our skin, because as temperatures drop, the production of sebum also decreases. Sebum acts as a layer of fat that locks moisture in the skin. Due to the thinner fat layer, the evaporation of the moisture in the skin increases, the result is dry skin. Dry heating air also removes moisture from the skin.
For many of those affected, this also means that psoriasis attacks occur more frequently. We'll give you a few tips on how to get through autumn and the cooler temperatures.
1. Use gentle shower and washing gels
Psoriatic skin is particularly sensitive and therefore particularly irritable. It is therefore important to cleanse the skin gently.
Avoid products with fragrances and drying alcohols. pH-neutral products that moisturize the skin and have a moisturizing effect are particularly good. In this way, the skin's fat layer is maintained and the skin is more likely to retain moisture. After cleansing, the skin should be gently dabbed with a towel instead of rubbed.
2. Take a bath with bath additives
Water removes moisture from the skin - so isn't it bad to take a bath?
Yes and no: it depends on the right amount. A weekly 15-minute bath is recommended - not only can you relax, but you can also do something good for your skin.
A classic solution for this is a bath with Dead Sea bath salts, because after the bath, dandruff can come off more easily and the itching is often perceived as being alleviated.
A few drops of olive oil or lavender oil in bath water can also have a positive effect on your skin, as oil has a moisturizing effect.
3. Use moisturizing skincare products
Moisturizing skincare is particularly important after the shower (please not too hot!).
Here, too, you should use care products that ideally have moisturizing and soothing ingredients.
Bisabolol, for example, has skin-soothing properties, while aloe vera has moisturizing properties. Another valuable ingredient is panthenol, as it provides moisture and can have both a moisturizing and antibacterial effect.
All of these ingredients are contained in our soothing care cream - making it ideal for pampering your skin with an extra dose of moisture.
